Mobile Computing Project
I worked with another student pursuing his Ph.D. in Horticulture to put together an interactive field guide for one of the garden's in the Cornell's Plantation. The goal of the project was the provide in-depth information about the many plants grown in the garden through an interface appropriate for a handheld computer.
We used the Apple Newton as our mobile computer and developed a working prototype in HTML. The exploration did not go beyond a prototype phase, but the research and development process was very rewarding.
- Collected requirements from faculty and students
- Optimized content for viewing while in the field
- Designed interfaces appropriate for a 330x490 pixel display
- Ran user testing sessions to refine prototype
- Presented prototype and findings for thesis in HCI
