Vice-President of Creative Design, OnShare.com
OnShare was among the first P2P products on the market (just before Napster launched) and was much more flexible than other music sharing software. We were a classic startup - we spent our first several months working out of the dining room of a house in Ithaca, hammering out a feature set, building the software, and running our first servers on a cable modem. Starting a major project from the very beginning was a great challenge, allowing me to be involved in business strategy, development, as well as design.
Planning all of the functionality from scratch provided great opportunities for brainstorming and collaboration, and also provide some new challenges. I learned to manage several projects at the same time and also gained some experience with managing other designers. I was in charge of designing and building OnShare's web site as well as designing OnShare's file sharing software (the OnShare Client). After the first year I transitioned much of the development work to an HTML developer and spent most of my time designing OnShare's second generation web site and software. Sadly P2P file sharing didn't survive...
