First Mockups
I created the first mockups for the PhotoSite software after discussing ideas and brainstorming with the executive team. The purpose of these mockups was to communicate the vision for the product to the Board of Directors.

The initial feature set was geared towards helping the user get photos from their digital camera in PhotoSite, then helping them manage their photos.
Second Iteration - Product Vision
I began developing my own vision for the feature set and usability goals while working on the second iteration of PhotoSite in September. The Board was interested in the project after the meeting in May, but we wanted to have another round of brainstorms before formally kicking off the project.

I took many of the ideas communicated by the executive team and began to shape them into a functional plan for the feature set and interface. I established my goal that the product should be highly visual and that most data related to photos should be communicated visually.

Focus Groups
I started working full-time on PhotoSite in December, when we concentrated efforts on user research. I used mockups to create a complete storyboard of how a user might use PhotoSite to manage and share their pictures. Our moderator took the focus group panel through the sample scenario and we collected their reactions and feedback for how they might use the product.

Focus groups proved to be highly valuable in helping us refine and rethink some of our assumptions for the product. We shifted away from photo management and began to focus more intensely on photo sharing.

Brainstorming, Spec-writing, Development
We worked intensively during January and February to define the feature set and establish a timeline for product development. We redesigned several aspects of the application using our learnings from focus groups. These new designs went through several iterations as the Development Team added their input to the process.
